WHY THIS TALK?

The purpose of this talk is to give SEND boys a space where they feel seen, understood, and genuinely supported. It offers them practical tools and positive guidance to help them build confidence, navigate challenges, and recognise their own potential.

This assembly and its supporting workshops are designed to inspire, empower, and uplift young men with additional needs, helping them recognise that their lives are full of potential, purpose, and possibility. Through engaging discussion, positive role models, and relatable stories, we help boys identify their unique strengths, build self-belief, and connect their interests to future opportunities both inside and outside of school.

Our approach celebrates individuality — showing each young man that his voice matters, his abilities have value, and that challenges don’t define who he is or what he can achieve. With the right support, encouragement, and understanding, we help them see that every setback can become the foundation for resilience, confidence, and long-term success.

We were so delighted to invite Nathan to The British School Of Bucharest. Nathan's approach was appropriate and pitched at exactly the right level for the age of the students and his ability to adapt the material and content was fantastic. Some of the content was quite sensitive but Nathan handled it and marshalled the discussion with ease. He had a strong ability to connect with and engage the students of all ages. They gave immensely positive feedback

SUPPORTING WORKSHOPS

Workshop 1: Know Your Strengths & Self-Advocacy

Students identify what they’re good at and learn how to ask for what helps. Using simple visuals and sentence starters, they create a personal Support Card so teachers and mentors know the best ways to help them succeed.

Workshop 2: Emotion Toolkit & Regulation Plan

This practical session helps students recognise early signs of stress and choose regulation tools that work for them. They leave with a personalised plan they can use in class, at home, and online.

Workshop 3: Online Boundaries & Managing Overload

Students practise safer choices for chats, gaming and social media using clear, step-by-step strategies. They build a simple digital plan to manage time, protect privacy, and handle pressure from peers or group chats.

Workshop 4: Respectful Relationships & Social Scripts

With concrete examples and easy-to-use scripts, students learn how to set boundaries, communicate clearly, and handle rejection kindly. The focus is on confidence, respect and building healthy connections.
