Pupil Referral Units & Alternative Provision
Below is some information on what this talk is about and the topics covered

WHY THIS TALK?
This assembly meets boys in alternative provisions exactly where they are, offering them guidance, encouragement and a sense of possibility. It provides a supportive space where they can reconnect with their strengths, rethink their future, and see that their story is far from over
This Assembly and its accompanying workshops are designed to support, assist and inspire young men removed from mainstream education, helping them build self-confidence, develop self-belief and establish self-worth. One of the main challenges they face is the inescapable feeling of rejection, abandonment and isolation that often follows such a decision. It is therefore extremely important to show them that, despite their current circumstances, their lives are still full of potential and opportunity.

As part of the assembly we encourage boys to think about areas of education and work that interest and excite them. Motivation can be a major hurdle, so we help them draw connections between their pre-existing passions, their current learning experience and possible future career options. We also encourage boys to reflect on the realities of continued disengagement, disruptive behaviour and dangerous choices, helping them comprehend the consequences and where this could lead if they are unable to apply themselves.

Removal from mainstream education, despite the many challenges it poses, does not have to mean the end of hope, aspiration or future prospects. With the right guidance from role models with lived experience of both alternative education systems and the judicial system, we can support these young men and help them establish the crucial foundations they need to go forward and flourish.

We were so delighted to invite Nathan to The British School Of Bucharest. Nathan's approach was appropriate and pitched at exactly the right level for the age of the students and his ability to adapt the material and content was fantastic. Some of the content was quite sensitive but Nathan handled it and marshalled the discussion with ease. He had a strong ability to connect with and engage the students of all ages. They gave immensely positive feedback

SUPPORTING WORKSHOPS
Workshop 1: From Setbacks to Strength
This workshop helps young men reframe challenges as opportunities for growth. Through reflection, peer support, and creative activities, they learn that setbacks do not define them — strength and resilience come from how they respond and move forward.

Workshop 2: Passions into Pathways
Boys explore how their interests and talents can connect to real opportunities. Whether it’s music, sport, mechanics, gaming, or design, this workshop shows how passions can become pathways to education, training, and future careers.

Workshop 3: Choices, Risks & Consequences
Every decision shapes the future. This session uses real-life scenarios and role-play to help young men recognise the risks in front of them, reflect on the consequences of their actions, and practise making stronger, more positive choices.

Workshop 4: Role Models, Hope & New Beginnings
Hearing from men with lived experience, this workshop inspires young men to see that setbacks are not the end of the story. Through personal reflection and group activities, they build hope, self-belief, and a vision for positive new beginnings.
